Animal Farm, anti-utopian satire by George Orwell, published in 1945. One of Orwell's finest works, it is a political fable based on totalitarianism and democratic socialism/communism ideas.

Even though this was required reading in middle school, I loved this book. A perfect allegory for tyrannical communism, it helped translate the concept to my American teen brain. I thank Orwell for expanding my horizons.

Four Legs Good, Two Legs Baaaad = "Lock Her Up"....."Drill, Baby, Drill"....."Make America Great Again"......etc. Orwell understood that a great amount of people know almost nothing about what is going on in the Government and will NEVER take the time to find out. Even if it means their lives are being destroyed - they won't bother.........Orwell truly nails it. This book made him famous, and he wrote his masterpiece - 1984 - while very sick and knowing he was going to die soon. I salute you, Mr. Orwell, a truly great man and an inspiration.

I am so glad that this book is still required reading in some schools. Anyone still looking to increase their knowledge base try 1984, also a George Orwell book, and A Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley
