"Having children, raising them, and socialization with neighbors and relatives are the greatest functions of the Amish family. Amish believe large families are a blessing from God.[1] The main purposes of "family" can be illustrated within the Amish culture in a variety of ways. The family has authority over the individual throughout life. Loyalties to parents, grandparents, and other relatives may change over time but they will never cease. A church district is measured by the number of families (households), rather than by the number of baptized persons.[2] Families take turns hosting the biweekly preaching service. Parents stress their responsibilities and obligations for the correct nurture of their children. They consider themselves accountable to the Lord for the spiritual welfare of their children." Ohio Amish Barn Raising - May 13th, 2014 in 3 Minutes and 30 seconds
This is amazing! No generators humming, saws screaming, no drills whining, just the sound of man powered tools! These barns are held together better than any quick build building anywhere. It will stand for years! Teamwork, friendship, and vision are wonderful and powerful things when they come together for a common cause! I envy these folks in many ways! I plan to use this as a sermon illustration. If God's people put their heads, hearts, and hands together amazing feats can be accomplished! Thanks for sharing! By the way, this is exactly the kind of things our children need to see!

Silo Filling
Silo filling is a very different type of load on a steam engine. The entire bundle of corn stalks is fed into the cutter, including the ears. Cutting the stalks is much easier than cutting through the ears, thus the engine governor gets a continuous workout as each ear reaches the cutting blades, or several ears hit at once. The engine "talks".
